Leadership Development & Advocacy Committee

Members Present:  Margarita Grome; Jean Lawlor; Anna Liebenow (speaker phone); Jason Pisano; Mary E. Wambach, Chairperson of the LDA.

Staff:  Camille Pansa, Executive Director; Lisel Rockwood, Program Assistant.

Interpretor: Dona Lombardi.

 

1.       Welcome/Introductions:  Mary Wambach welcomed all.  

  1. Review and Approval of August Minutes:  previously sent. A motion was made by jean Lawlor and seconded by Margarita Grome to accept the minutes as written. Vote passed unanimously. 
  2. Goals and Initiatives, workshops for 2010:  The following ideas were suggested and each will be discussed further at the next meeting prior to a vote being taken.  

Ø     ADA 20th Celebration

Ø     Disability History Week Bill & Curriculum

Ø     RIVER – continue supportive role

Ø     Legislative Event (2010 election year)

Ø     Olmstead – the PLAN

Ø     Global Medicaid Waiver – analyze, explain, disseminate information

Ø     Shared Living

Ø     Mental Health Advocacy

Ø     Cross Disability Symposium - workshop

Ø     Legislative advocacy – workshop

Ø     Multifaceted Transitioning - workshop

4.  Independent Living conference: Members were reminded that the conference will be at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, a new venue this year.

  1. Statewide issues/concerns: tabled.
  2. Annual meeting reminder/update: Invitations have been sent out. Members were reminded to send in their RSVPs.
  3. Educational Presentation for Annual: Mary Wambach reported that she had contacted Top Drawer and they are all set to present at the annual and will bring their artwork for display.
  4. RIPTA/SRC Updates: tabled.
  5. RIVER updates: The group is working on establishing structure, by laws and a web site.
  6. UPDATE: Mental Health issue: tabled.
  7. Announcements: none.
  8. Old Business: none.
  9. New Business: none.
